You’ve Got Questions. We're Happy To Answer Them!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When will the Institute open?
The general plan is to open within the next five years, but we've got a lot to do before we can open our doors to the public. There are fundraising goals that must be met, the buildings/properties need to be renovated and staff will need to be hired who can help administer programs and engage the community.
We are planning public meetings that will provide you with more details and also a give you chance to participate in our preparation and our vision.
Do you offer any programs, services or events in the meantime?
Yes. Among the programs offered are:
Annual African American Festival
Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Children's Birthday Party
Freedom's Journey, television program airing the 4th & 5th Sundays of every month 9:00am - 9:30am
Tours of the East Side's Historic African American sites
Annual Kwanzaa Celebration and much more!
We welcome your suggestions for additional programs in keeping with community needs.
What kind of help do you need?
While our biggest need is for financial assistance, we are also looking for volunteers to help with various tasks and in-kind donations to satisfy other important aspects of making the AAHI a reality! Check out our "Get Involved" Page for more details.
